Medicare Rebated Appointments

In order to be eligible for a Medicare rebated appointment, you will require a valid Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) referral from your GP. While we encourage you to discuss your symptoms and get a MHCP referral from your regular GP, we understand there are times where you may not be able to see your regular GP or people do not have a regular GP. Please be aware you can get a referral from any GP, including those at bulk-billing and walk-in services.

If you are unsure of how to discuss our service with a GP, you can contact our friendly admin team they will provide you with a letter to take with you to your GP appointment detailing our service and requesting that if they feel telehealth would be suitable for you that they provide you with a referral for a Mental Health Care Plan. This letter includes how they can send the Mental Health Care Plan to us.

The number of sessions in which you will receive a Medicare rebate for a proportion of your appointments fee, is currently 10 sessions per calendar year. As of the 1st October 2023 the rebate you will get back is $96.65.

Individuals with an eating disorder are able to access up to 40 sessions, however our service does not currently have psychologists who work with this presentation.

Private Health Insurance

Currently, many private health insurance funds are covering online, telehealth, psychological appointments. Please contact your private health insurer to determine if you are eligible for online psychological cover.

The number of sessions an individual will be able to have part of the cost covered varies between health providers. On average this is around 5 sessions per calendar. Please contact to your health provider to determine how many they cover.

Does this mean I do not need a referral from my GP?

If you plan to access rebates from your private health insurer, you may need to be referred by your GP. Please check with your insurer what they require.
You may also see information below regarding current telehealth requirements for private health insurance rebates.

NDIS Self-Managed & Plan-Managed

Currently Graciously You Psychological Services is not registered with NDIS. As such, only individuals who are on a self-managed and plan-managed plan may use NDIS funding to cover the cost of their appointment with our service. You may find out more about NDIS funding at https://www.ndis.gov.au/understanding/how-ndis-works/mental-health-and-ndis

If you or your teenager are attending appointments funded by the NDIS, the number of sessions covered will depend on your/their funding plan. The number of sessions is determined by their goals and needs and thus will vary between individuals. If you are unsure or require more information please contact your NDIS Plan Manager.

Private Appointments

Any individual can self-refer to our service to access support for a range of psychological concerns/symptoms.

A referral is not required for private appointments where an individual is going to pay the entire cost of the appointment and does not intend to access psychological cover through their private health insurance or access a rebate through Medicare’s Better Access Scheme.

What if I am an Australian living/travelling outside of Australia?

Due to the insurance limitations of our registered psychologists insurance this service is currently limited to people residing within Australia.

Report Writing

Our psychologist does not write reports for court or medico-legal purposes as she is not trained in these types of report writing. If you are an existing client and require a report for a different reason, please be aware there is a minimum two week report writing period. Reports are billed as per the APS report writing rate and are not eligible for a Medicare rebate.
